Choose a Side

Rift Zone: Contact is a miniatures-based strategy game that captures the battle between the United Earth Defense Force, and the Scry’Ox Collective as they battle for the distant world of Proxima Centauri B. Both civilizations, unaware of each other, searched for a new home. First contact between them erupted into an armed conflict due to a failure of communication and incompatible technology.

But something happened that neither side anticipated.  The Scry’Ox faster than light technology, based upon their ability to manipulate gravity, and the human equivalent, which boosted a ship into a higher order dimension where time passed differently, interacted as both fleets blinked into existence around the planet.  Suddenly, a rift appeared and the fleets were drawn into them, effectively cutting off the forces that both sides had deployed. The ground forces were stranded and the remaining ships were forced to land.

Proxima Centauri B is a world rich with life whose closest analog is the fungus and slime molds of planet Earth.  There are signs on this world of an ancient alien civilization that appears to have gone extinct thousands of years ago, but some of the ruins of this race remain, and potentially hold the key to victory.

Both sides must brave alien terrain and find a way to reestablish communication with their home worlds.

It started with a miscommunication...

A New Home?

After narrowly surviving the apocalypse, humanity has grown to a breaking point on Earth. Mars, long ago forced to be independent by an earth-bound disaster, cannot, or will not, help. Desperately, they have searched the stars for a new home.

Proxima Centauri B may be their best hope for survival. Seemingly perfect, it is habitable and contains all the resources necessary for a new home. Using hyperspace technology, borrowed from Mars at a steep price, they set off for their new home, only to find they are not the only ones in the market.

The United Earth Defense Force has armed themselves to face their new foe. In order to protect their people, they have turned even farm equipment into weapons...

A Mysterious Malady

The hive clans of the Scry’Ox have peacefully expanded to occupy the worlds of their home system, integrating the native species and living in harmony with their environment. Utilizing gravity manipulation and advanced biotechnology, they have adapted themselves to survive in many different environments. Now, fleeing a mysterious disease that threatens their very existence, they have discovered the garden world of Proxima Centauri B.

Discovering alien ships in orbit could have been a pleasant surprise. Sadly, the aliens at first did not respond to the usual localized gravity manipulation common among the Scry'Ox for initial hails. Increasing the power to the transmitters resulted in disaster! The aliens fired some sort of weapon at the unprepared envoy. This unprovoked attack not only destroyed the ship but killed the queen sent to oversee the initial operations.
